Israel is approximately 9,393,500, which includes a variety of people with diverse ethnic backgrounds, religions, cultures and traditions. About 90% of Israel's residents live in urban centers. About 5% are members of unique rural cooperative settlements - the kibbutz and the moshav.

Israel’s region has a Mediterranean climate characterized by two main seasons: a short, rainy winter and a long hot summer. The flora and fauna in Israel are characterized by great diversity due to the many different climate zones of Israel. Over 500 kinds of birds, some 200 mammal and reptile species, and 2,600 plant types are found within its borders. There are over 150 nature reserves and 65 national parks, covering almost 400 square kilometers throughout the country.

Jerusalem is the capital city of the State of Israel, and the largest city in Israel in terms of population. As of 2022, approximately 974,000 people live there. Many of Israel's government institutions are located in Jerusalem: The Knesset, the Supreme Court, the President's Residence, the Prime Minister's House, and most of the government offices. 

Tel Aviv is the second most populous in Israel. Tel Aviv lies on the coast of the Mediterranean, and is today the center of the country’s industrial, commercial, financial and cultural life.

Haifa is the third most populous city in Israel. It is a known coastal town since ancient times, is a major Mediterranean port and the industrial and commercial center of northern Israel.

Be'er Sheva is today the largest urban center in the southern district. It provides administrative, health, education, economic, and cultural services for the entire southern region.
